How Kinu Café Came to Be

The cosplay famous twins (IchiGoGo Twins) located in Fresno partnered up with the owner of Silkroad Gallery to create a temporary maid cafe.

On June 29th of 2011, Kinu Café was born. The twins asked their friends to help them out with an event Silkroad was planning to have. At first, we were just a temporary maid cafe just for this one Silkroad event that is now known as, "Otakueen." But from then on, we continued with more one-day events from Silkroad Gallery.

In 2012, the anime community started branching out in terms of conventions and gatherings. A new group called, "Nerd Bomb," had us cater to two anime events. They were our first to serve others outside of a Silkroad venue.

As 2013 rolled around, TVN Sports & Collectibles decided to create a new mini-convention that happened twice in one year. Their entirely free convention at the Manchester Mall has opened up a new door for the cafe in terms of service and food.

We were able to handle homemade food and drink to our customers, we had our own designated area that was closed off from the rest of the convention, and the event lasted a whole weekend. Our fan base grew immensely!

In 2018 we received word that we were chosen to be Crunchyroll Expo's very own Hime Maid Cafe (Hi-Maids)! Crunchyroll Expo has become a huge annual event for us as a cafe because we travel distances to get to San Jose and be apart of the anime community in the Northern California region. Both years we have hosted Hime Cafe all our sessions have been sold out! Every year we learn more and more about working as a maid cafe on a much more grander scale!

Now in 2024, our staff is constantly growing, and various sponsors are reaching out to us within the local anime community. Even though we are expanding our horizons as of late, we always honor our roots, Silkroad Gallery.
